University of Texas at Dallas Announces Emerging Information Technology Conference

Sixth Annual Emerging Information Technology Conference (EITC-06) to be Held August 10-12, 2006 at The University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas will feature a broad range of academic and corporate speakers from U.S. and China.

Richardson, TX (PRWEB) July 7, 2006 -- Sixth Annual Emerging Information Technology Conference (EITC-06) to be Held August 10-12, 2006 at The University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas will feature a broad range of academic and corporate speakers from U.S. and China.

EITC-06 will showcase one of the most exciting 21st century technologies, Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID. Specific topic areas will include:

  • Nanotechnology,
  • MEMS,
  • Systems-on-Chip,
  • Bioinformatics,
  • C4I (Content, Computer, Communications, Consumer Electronics, and Integration),
  • EET (Emerging Energy Technology), and
  • VC (Venture Capital)

“…. (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas. Passive tags require no internal power source, whereas active tags require a power source ...”

According to Dr. George Wan, the organizer of this session, who is from Texas Instruments Corporate Headquarters in Richardson, Texas and also a Board member of Chinese Institute of Engineers, DFW Chapter (CIE), a co-sponsor of EITC-06, “We are really excited that we can showcase this very important technology at EITC. RFID is becoming one of the hottest technologies which can and will impact regional, national and global businesses in the 21st century!”

“It is very exciting that the Dallas Fort Worth area is one of the leading centers, if not the absolute leader, of RFID development.” said Dr. Da Hsuan Feng of the University of Texas at Dallas, an Advisor of CIE, one of the organizers of the Conference as well as the local hosts. “In fact, the company which George Wan works for, Texas Instruments, is undoubtedly the world's largest integrated manufacturer of RFID transponders and reader systems. Therefore having such an exciting session at EITC is timely and appropriate!”

The first EITC was held in New Jersey in 2001. For the following three years, in order to highlight the vital importance of fundamental and basic research in all selected disciplines, the EITC conference was held at Princeton University. The fifth Emerging Information Technology (EITC-05) was held at the National Taiwan University in Taipei and marked the first time the conference was held outside the United States.

EITC is organized by a consortium of Chinese American Science and Engineer Societies and technically cosponsored by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and IEEE Dallas Section. The objectives of EITC are to facilitate technical and information exchange among professionals from the Pacific Rim and North America on emerging information technologies; to strengthen the technical and business ties between the IT industries and academics; and to jointly explore research and business opportunities in emerging information technologies.
