The Beginning of a New Era for Maxwell Mansion

Maxwell Mansion, Philadelphia's only restored Victorian House Museum enters a new phase of development with the appointment of published author, Michael B. Gaines as its Executive Director.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 14, 2006 -- Maxwell Mansion, Philadelphia's only Victorian house museum, has entered a new phase of its development with the appointment of Michael B. Gaines, author of "The Shortest Dynasty 1837-1847; The Story of Robert Portner; a History of His Brewing Empire and the Story of His Beloved Annaburg" to the position of Executive Director. Long a symbol of community restoration and Preservation efforts, Maxwell Mansion has been the Cornerstone of the Historic Germantown Tulpehocken Street District and a shining example of what community involvement can do to preserve its past for future generations.

"Maxwell Mansion is looking to optimize its resources," said Mr. Gaines. "We will be looking at New ways to creatively use our building, implementing some innovative new programs, AND looking at untapped funding sources. Given the community's long-standing support of the Mansion, we hope that they will be an integral part of this process as we go forward," he said.

This summer will find the Mansion open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from ten until four, staffed with volunteers who are engaging in a thorough and detailed cataloging of the museum's extensive collections. While guided tours are given by appointment only, the community is asked to stop by to tea and chat with the staff on Wednesday afternoons from one until three. If you would like to volunteer, No matter for how long or short of time, the Mansion would be honored to have you. Maxwell Mansion is located at 200 West Tulpehocken Street on the corner of Greene and Tulpehocken Streets.
