Jewish Traditions Alive, Well and Online

Jews and non-Jews around the United States are turning to the Internet for information, advice and gifts for Jewish holidays including Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

Westport, CT (PRWEB) July 18, 2006 -- As many people—both Jewish as well as other religions -- look to learn more about the Jewish holidays and traditions, they are turning to the Internet for information and resources to help them learn and celebrate these important holidays.

“I try hard to keep some of the traditions alive but it is not always easy. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the Internet I do not think I would know about the traditional foods and customs of many of the holidays,” Robyn Goldman, 36, New York, New York explains.

Goldman, like many people who observe the Jewish holidays, is turning to the Internet to not only find out information about the traditions but also to buy traditional foods to help keep the traditions alive.

“I can’t imagine Rosh Hashana without apples and honey in order to look forward to a sweet new year,” Jan Skawinski, 46, Brooklyn, New York, explains. “Last year I bought a basket from Challah Connection that had wonderful honeycomb in the basket and it was so nice to enjoy a tradition that I have enjoyed since I’m a little boy,” Skawinski continues.

“I think it’s great that I can go online and learn all about Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. I was just reading yesterday about the shofar which is a horn that plays 100 notes each day and how it is not played if Rosh Hashana falls on Shabbat,” Goldman explains.

Challah Connections’ Jane Moritz takes great pride in not only keeping Jewish traditions flourishing but in also providing high quality, fresh food items to enjoy with family and friends.

“Every gift basket and food item we offer is of the same high quality I would want and expect to serve my family and friends and that is the Challah Connection difference,” Moritz explains. “I also find it important to help explain some of the traditions and culture of the different holidays to both my Jewish and non-Jewish customers who can appreciate these wonderful traditions and delicious traditional foods,” Moritz continues.

Rosh Hashana represents the starting of a new year, ten days after Rosh Hashana is Yom Kippur which is known as the Day of Atonement and is the holiest day of the year. These two holidays are extremely important in the Jewish faith and the Internet has made it easier for Jewish and non-Jewish people to learn more about them and find what they need to help celebrate these and other holidays.

“The celebration of holidays are often more than just religious celebrations -- they are times for family to also celebrate being a family and for people to come together and celebrate their relationships and friendships,” Moritz explains. “Enjoying wonderful food, great conversation and joy together is what holidays are about to many of my customers and I love the fact they are enjoying our home baked goods as they celebrate these holidays with the people they love,” Moritz continues.

Religious leaders from around the world have been lamenting over what appears to be a turning away from organized religion. The Internet, however, has been seen as a powerful vehicle that is reconnecting people with their faith. Many Jewish and non-Jewish people are searching for information on Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and other holidays to learn more about the tradition and how to keep that tradition alive.

“It may sound a bit odd, but I have to say the Internet has really helped me reestablish a connection to my Jewish heritage ever since my mother died. It was a special moment in my home when I got the challah and rugelach from Challah Connection delivered. It was as much a reconnection to my mother as it was reconnection to my faith,” Skawinski concludes.
