The Hopkinton Education Foundation (HEF) has awarded nine grants totaling $69,000 to town schools. Since its inception in 1992, the HEF has promoted excellence in education in the Hopkinton public schools by funding academic grants for teachers and administrators.

Hopkinton, MA (PRWEB) July 19, 2006 -– The Hopkinton Education Foundation (HEF) has awarded nine grants totaling $69,000 to town schools. Since its inception in 1992, the HEF has promoted excellence in education in the Hopkinton public schools by funding academic grants for teachers and administrators.

HEF grants are funded solely from donations by the community and through fundraisers held during the year. This past year continued a strong history of ever-increasing community donations and support for HEF activities, with donations reaching a new level of over $80,000.

As in past years, the competition for grants was intense, with requests totaling $118,000. Grants were awarded across a wide spectrum of grades and disciplines. “It is getting more and more challenging each year to choose from the many excellent requests that we get,” said Jonica Preite, chair of the grant committee. “The committee strives to award grants that have the most significant impact on the children, and we are confident we have accomplished that once again this year.”

Additionally, the first annual golf tournament, co-sponsored with the Hopkinton Boosters Club, was recently held at Hopkinton Country Club. As the first fundraiser for the new fiscal year, the golf tournament officially kicks off HEF’s 2006-07 year. “The golf tournament is indicative of the type of fundraisers that HEF organizes,” said Ruth Ann Cote, the incoming HEF president. “Whether it is the golf tournament, the annual Winter Gala, or any of the other fundraisers, our success in raising money to support the grants is dependent on the participation of the community, the business sponsors, and the dedicated volunteers who organize each event. The HEF is very fortunate to have such a supportive environment so we can achieve our goals.”
