Hospice Nurse Speaks of the Beauty and Tragedy that is Calcutta

"In Mother Teresa’s House: A Hospice Nurse in the Slums of Calcutta" follows nurse Rosemary Dew’s journey of compassion as she recounts her experiences caring for the sick and dying among the poorest of Calcutta’s poor.

Woodbine, MD (PRWEB) August 6, 2006 -- "In Mother Teresa’s House: A Hospice Nurse in the Slums of Calcutta" follows nurse Rosemary Dew’s journey of compassion as she recounts her experiences caring for the sick and dying among the poorest of Calcutta’s poor.

Dew offers a first-hand account of the mysterious contradiction that is Calcutta, India -- open air markets full of beautiful colors, the smells of exotic foods and spices, the sights and sounds of a crush of humanity vying for space, and the devastation of poverty and illness.

A tragic yet touching story, "In Mother Teresa’s House" unfolds life and death struggles in the Missionaries of Charity’s House for Sick and Dying Destitutes in Calcutta, Mother Teresa’s first love. While the book is filled with seemingly hopeless cases of disease and misery from the city's most needy and often abandoned citizens, it also reveals the worth of the humble volunteers’ commitment. Throughout the story, Dew affirms that what people often need most is not always materialistic items but the compassion, understanding and dignity of others.

“The time I spent in the slums of Calcutta, in that ocean of chaos where nothing was as I expected, brought me a sense of fulfillment that I’d never dreamt possible.” -- Rosemary Dew
