A new tour from "Weird Illinois" book author Troy Taylor offers an alternative look at the local legends and best kept secrets of Chicago.
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 -- Author Troy Taylor knows about “weird”. The longtime writer on subjects of ghosts and the supernatural took a lighter turn in 2005 when he penned a book for Barnes and Noble Press called “Weird Illinois” and now he is taking that penchant for weirdness one step further by launching a new Chicago tour based on the book.
On his “Weird Chicago Tour”, Taylor and other members of the staff, including fellow writers Adam Selzer and Ken Berg, promise to take visitors for a walk on the wild side of the city in search of the weirdest people, places and sites that Chicago has to offer. The tour is designed for not only tourists coming to the city but for lifelong natives as well.
“On a few tours that we have done in the past, we have highlighted these unusual aspects of Chicago,” Taylor said, “and we get people who have lived here their entire lives and have never seen some of these things.”
The tours are designed to include Chicago’s most unusual pubs and diners; infamous crime spots; notoriously haunted places; famous and little known spots used for movies; chilling roadways; bloody disaster sites; and much more. One of the tours is even a “Chicago Hot Dog Tour” that will travel the city sampling the best of what we have to offer by way of local fare.
“The main idea is that people never know what to expect from the tour,” said Taylor. “We may visit haunted bars, sites where they filmed movies, the alley where Dillinger was gunned down and the home of two dancing wieners -- all in one tour.”
One thing is sure; the tour is designed to be fun and to show people a side of the city that they might not always see. It’s all about the offbeat and the left of center -- the kind of things that may leave people chuckling, a little unnerved or just scratching their head in confusion.
“We take you to the best, and sometimes the worst parts of the city, but they are all the things that make Chicago great,” explained Taylor.
The first tour for “Weird Chicago” is September 2, 2006 and after that, tours will run every Friday and Saturday night all year around, with additional “ghost” tours in late October. Reservations can be made toll-free at 1-888-446-7859 or visit the website at www.weirdchicago.com
