OneKeyAway to Host the Battle of the Romantically Dysfunctional Songwriters October 5, 2006 at M Bar

Award winning LA musical satirist Chris Valenti to battle celebrated Bay Area musical comic Phil Johnson as part of OneKeyAway singles mixer’s new Datertainment series.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 31, 2006 -- OneKeyAway and Emotional Wreck-ords will be hosting The Romantically Dysfunctional Songwriters on Thursday, Oct 5, 2006, at 10 p.m. The interactive singles mixer and musical grudge match will be held at M Bar, located at 1253 North Vine Street in Hollywood.

Emotional Wreck-ord’s artists are hopeful romantics who each croon their rock tunes with great levity.

Performer Chris Valenti has an instinctive knack for using self-deprecation and vulnerability to write songs about the hazards and frustrations of love and attempted relationships. He’s become a spokesperson for the unlucky in love. His new album ‘Emotional Wreck’ has attracted much critical acclaim -- “ranks with Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’ as one of the best breakup records I’ve ever heard, but Joni didn’t find her sense of humor until years later,” says KUNM-FM music director Matthew Finch.

At a time when substance is eschewed for entertainment, Phil Johnson works to embrace both. While most people are wrapped up in their comfort zones of stress, depression, and anxiety, Phil’s hilarious music bring them to place where, for a moment, none of the little problems matter. He certainly reminds his audience that and there's always someone more screwed up than they are. “When listening to Phil you can even see the vibrant colors and skewed world of a classic Warner Brothers cartoon or a Robin Williams concert.” – San Jose Mercury News

A OneKeyAway single’s mixer will accompany the Battle. OneKeyAway events allow guests to interact freely with others in a pressure-free environment with an opportunity to quickly discover similarities -- or dissimilarities -- in one another's personalities. The event is part psychology, part technology; OneKeyAway.com mixer events incorporate a hi-tech device, which measures one's personality compatibility with another person's. The device serves as both an icebreaker as well as an amazingly effective matchmaking tool. Unlike online dating services, OneKeyAway participants get to meet face-to-face and unlike the various speed dating service events, there is no obligation to speak to a certain person and time limits on conversations.

“This will be our first Musical Comedy Night mixer and we are very excited to cross promote the events together as part of our new Datertainment series.” says Edwin Duterte founder of OneKeyAway Mixers. “We think this is a great opportunity for us to have events that relate specifically to the evening’s theme.”

Combatant Chris Valenti agrees, “This show and a single’s mixer are a good match. OneKeyAway has created a fun environment for outgoing young professionals who want to meet other singles. The Battle is all about the single lifestyle. We’ve all had similar ups and downs in our single life. We just poke fun at ourselves and sing about it.”

The MatchlinC gadgets were developed in the late 1990's and are the first of their kind. The MatchlinC has a microcomputer chip that uses a proprietary algorithm, designed by a group of university professors. The algorithm compares two guests' responses to a personality/lifestyle questionnaire and then gives them a rating of their compatibility.

The questionnaire assesses information that a person might not normally reveal to someone -- at least not right away. The information is known only to the person holding the device, unless they choose to reveal it. This creates a pressure-free way to walk away from someone if the devices show they're not compatible or an opportunity to discuss what the rating might mean if they're interested in each other.

Phil Johnson said, “It’s fun to date and meet new people, but being single can also be scary and frustrating. I think we need to be able to smile at our good experiences and laugh at the embarrassing ones. Navigating through the single life requires a good sense of humor.”
