The Alexian Brothers Health System opened a new, state-of-the-art Learning Lab to serve as a hands-on classroom where physicians and other healthcare professionals learn to perform the latest diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures. The Learning Lab features:
- A spacious, fully equipped operating room with four work stations for conducting simulated surgeries, and accommodating about 12-15 physicians
- 25-person conference room with classroom style design
- High-tech audiovisual “telemedicine” system that allows trainees to participate in interactive lectures and witness live cases locally, regionally or nationally

The Learning Lab accommodates training for a variety of procedures, including minimally invasive surgeries in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, OB/GYN and General Surgery as an example. A typical training session at the center involves an interactive presentation by an expert in the industry or by physician. From there physicians enter the lab to expand their skills and complement their knowledge to the benefits of patients.
