Remember when going to the movies used to powerful and life-transforming experience? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if filmmakers created films that uplifted, inspired, expanded perception, challenged old paradigms and shed much needed light into our troubled times? We are pleased to announce that there are such independent filmmakers. The Sheraton Keauhou Resort and Spa will join The Aloha Theater to provide a unique showcase for their groundbreaking works at the Aloha Spirit Film Festival, in Kona, Hawaii, from Wednesday, September 13 - Sunday, September 17, 2006.

The Aloha Spirit Film Festival was founded by local entrepreneur, Alaia Leighland, supported by the expertise of Executive Producer, Cristian Ubilla, a celebrated film and events producer and director. The Aloha Spirit Film Festival grew out of the Big Island’s beloved Spiritual Cinema Circle (and its predecessor, the Spiritual Film Festival Review). As representatives of Hawaii's premier cinematic and media community, the festival seeks artistic alternatives to the violence, mind-numbing destruction and spiritual emptiness dominating so much of today's mass media. The festival mission is to discover and encourage the most inspiring, up and coming visionaries in inspirational cinema. Among the many films to be shown in this year’s festival will be:

Living Luminaries
An astounding array of some of the most inspiring minds of our times, including Maryanne Williamson, Eckhart Tolle, Gary Renard and many others examine the illusive emotion of happiness from many new and thought provoking angles.

Out & About with Brewer & Berg – A Multidimensional Travelogue
Two gay gurus film their serendipitous vision quest from Switzerland to Italy, all the way to the Vatican where – like two queer Martin Luthers – they confront the religious demons of the past and dare to proclaim a new artistic vision for the deeper purpose of Gayness in the Cosmic Plan!

Ghengis Blues
Winner of audience awards at Sundance and San Francisco International film festival this documentary film by brothers Roko and Adrian Belic film tells the story of Paul Pena, a blind blues musician's as he makes a triumphant journey to the lost land of Tuva.

The Aloha Spirit Film Festival will showcase some of the finest "cutting edge" international and local films, and enjoy over 30 exciting events, including live concerts, coffee talks, panel discussions, Q&A sessions with the filmmakers, along with activities promoting "green consciousness", such as a “follow your spirit day” and a 100% green festival market. The “climate-neutral” festival will feature organic food products and promote fair trade commerce and innovations in alternative sources of energy.
