SeeFile Software is unveiling a new version of its software, SeeFile 2.6, at Apple Expo (stand P28) and Photokina (hall 10.1, stand C018 and hall 4.1, stand C017) this month. SeeFile 2.6 is the first version of the software to be offered in a language other than English (in this case French and German). The software allows photographers, graphic designers and video editors to share private folders with their clients and collaborators, requiring only a PC or Mac web browser at the client end.

SeeFile 2.6 is the first version of the software to be offered in a language other than English (in this case French and German). The software allows photographers, graphic designers and video editors to share private folders with their clients and collaborators, requiring only a PC or Mac web browser at the client end.
Additional localizations can be done by modifying a small number of files associated with the product, and do not require any recompilation or software development. With this version of the product, SeeFile is aiming to bring the software’s capabilities the European market for the first time. Sales of the product, as well as highly positive reviews (Seybold Reports, Studio Photography and Design, Shutterbug, Big Picture), have so far been concentrated in North America.
For the first time, SeeFile 2.6 also includes the ability to download any file directly from its advanced preview and lightbox viewing modes. The download function, which is enabled or disabled for each user of the software by the system’s administrator using a browser-based interface, was previously only accessible from SeeFile’s thumbnail preview and in-depth metadata views.
SeeFile creates a Web representation of the file system on the originating Mac, with a continuously-updating view of folders, and previews of both still images and video files. Compared to traditional tools such as FTP transfers or sending physical storage media by courier, SeeFile offers tremendous advantages in interactivity and time savings. On the other hand, compared to full-blown digital asset management systems, SeeFile is dramatically affordable, with pricing from €399 for a fully functional version supporting 5 login profiles, to €3995 for an unlimited license. System bundles with Apple’s newest Mac mini hardware including Intel’s Core Duo processor are also available from dealers, at prices beginning at €995 complete for hardware and software.
