Alpharetta, GA (HRMarketer/PRWeb) September 20, 2006 -- The Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing has recognized Rock Island Arsenal and Tobyhanna Army Depot with the 2006 Shingo Prize Public Sector Award for achievement in implementing lean systems in support of the manufacturing, repair, overhaul and maintenance of war fighter equipment.

“The 2006 recipients are not only saving American taxpayers’ money, but increasing the quality and availability of military weapons that protect Americans at home and Soldiers abroad,” said North American Shingo Prize Director, Ross Robson.

Competitive Solutions, Inc. (CSI) has been working with each of these commands on implementing performance standards. CSI, a hands-on consulting company, specializes in Process Based Leadership™ (PBL) http://www.competitive-solutions.net/WhitePaper-PBL.pdf. PBL is a management system, which uses non-negotiable business processes to drive organizations to performance excellence and a culture of accountability. Tobyhanna Army Depot began using these processes in 1996 and Rock Island Arsenal in 2004.

Belonging to commands with established years of non-negotiable operating processes, gives these installations a tremendous advantage in performance excellence. It is the nature of the military to rotate Commanding Officers in and out of positions every two to three years; when planned processes and acknowledge goals are not in place, productivity is “reset” to square one with each new Commanding Officer.

“I am very proud of our folks in the Army Material Commands whose extraordinary efforts are providing our war fighters with the highest quality equipment, ahead of schedule and at a reduced cost. The Shingo Award recognizes this extraordinary performance by our arsenal and depot workforce,” said Gen. Benjamin S. Griffin, AMC Commanding General.

The two Army Commands received their awards at the 2nd Annual Shingo Prize Public Sector Conference, September 7, 2006, at the Tropicana Resort and Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.

Competitive Solutions, Inc. http://www.competitive-solutions.net/ offers a wide range of employee training and management services designed to help companies successfully improve their business, increase employee morale and make lasting improvements on productivity levels.
