Debt Advice Could Help Millions

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

There are millions of people in the UK who would benefit from professional debt advice, according to debt help organisation The Debt Counsellors.

UK debt help experts The Debt Counsellors believe literally millions of people who could benefit from debt advice are unaware that free, confidential debt counselling is available to them.

The latest UK debt statistics make for grim reading. According to Credit Action, the average household debt in the UK, including mortgages, is £50,091, and the average owed by every UK adult is approximately £26,313. What’s more, the average interest paid by each household on their total debt is approximately £3,086 each year.

There are also a number of cases where people go into denial about their debt problems and struggle on, all the while making the problem worse. Once again, we recommend these people face up to their difficulties and get professional debt advice because it won’t cost them a penny and could start them off on the road to becoming debt free once again.
Unfortunately, the trend is upward: personal debt is rising all the time and showing no signs of slowing, with the UK’s total of £1,237 billion being added to by £1 million every four minutes.

The Debt Counsellors say these figures are testament to the necessity of professional debt counselling, and urge anyone struggling under the burden of unsustainable debts to contact them for free and confidential debt advice.

John Porter, a senior counsellor with The Debt Counsellors, said: “While debt has become a way of life for some, there are debt solutions that can help them. But too many people are unaware of steps they can take to alleviate their financial difficulties, and that’s where good debt advice can help.

“The Debt Counsellors offer professional debt advice, free of charge and in complete confidence, so anyone worried about their level of borrowing should contact us immediately and speak to one of our debt professionals.”

Porter adds: “There are also a number of cases where people go into denial about their debt problems and struggle on, all the while making the problem worse. Once again, we recommend these people face up to their difficulties and get professional debt advice because it won’t cost them a penny and could start them off on the road to becoming debt free once again.”
