Anybody can do stand-up comedy with the Manhattan Comedy School. We will explain in this free one-hour workshop all the dos and don'ts for total beginners. Aspiring comedians get inside track on success from industry experts. http://www.ManhattanComedySchool.com

New York, N.Y. (PRWEB) September 26, 2006 -- For anyone who has ever aspired to a career in stand-up comedy, valuable lessons on what it takes to succeed will be offered at a free comedy workshop being given by The Manhattan Comedy School at Carolines on Broadway, 1626 Broadway, New York City, on Saturday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. Call (212) 462-3200 for reservations (please note that space is limited). http://ManhattanComedySchool.com

Among those who will speak at the workshop -- called “Anybody Can Do Stand-Up Comedy!” -- are Andy Engel, founder of The Manhattan Comedy School and the Director of New Talent for Carolines on Broadway, and Linda Smith, a three-time Emmy Award nominee, veteran stand-up comedian and course instructor for The Manhattan Comedy School.

The workshop will address various issues that concern aspiring stand-ups, including: how to get stage time, the five cardinal rules for beginners, why being nervous is normal and healthy, what material to use for an industry videotape, when to audition, how to find an agent, and more. There will also be a brief questions-and-answers session with the speakers immediately following the workshop.

The workshop will also outline the curriculum of The Manhattan Comedy School’s six-week stand-up class that will begin on Monday, November 14th. The course is the city’s premier class for aspiring stand-ups, and provides an important education in the art of stand-up comedy. The course concludes with a live performance at Carolines on Broadway, where each student will receive a complimentary broadcast quality videotape of their performance, which can function as their video resume.

“It’s very interesting to see how students develop so quickly and thoroughly over the six week run of the course,” says Andy Engel. “It’s great to see how even those who appeared to be the most shy and timid at the beginning, really hit their mark by the time they take the stage at Carolines for their graduation performance. Having an instructor such as Linda who brings 20 years of experience in stand-up, comedy writing and television producing is invaluable to the development and success of the students.”

“Even though I’ve seen it many times before, to see the exhilaration and satisfaction of my students as they leave the stage after their performance, it’s always a great feeling for me,” Engel adds

The course also offers a one-hour session with Engel, in which he discusses and emphasizes the business side of getting started as a professional stand-up comedian.
