The Language Standards for Global Business Summit, which took place in Vienna, Austria, between the dates of December 14-15, 2006, was a huge success announcing the new ISO 639-6 standard. San Diego, CA (PRWeb) January 6, 2007 -- The Language Standards for Global Business Summit, which took place in Vienna, Austria, between the dates of December 14-15, 2006, was a huge success announcing the new ISO 639-6 standard. The goals it set out to achieve were implemented. In addition, important announcements were made and agreements were reached to further enhance the value of this event.

Of note, it was announced that the base data researched for potential inclusion to the ISO 639-6 standard, will be made available for discussion in the OmegaWiki (http://www.omegawiki.org) thereby contributing to the final verification and validation to be made by the World Language Documentation Centre. The ISO 639-6 will uniquely identify all additional linguistic entities, putting them in an hierarchical context thus increasing the effectiveness of software applications. There is no doubt that all of this will have an important impact on the globalization industry.

In a parallel ISO Task Group meeting it was proposed, discussed and agreed upon that an overview of the ISO 639-6 standard will be made available on the WikiforStandards at the same time as the Draft International Standard is issued for Public Comment, where all interested parties may express their thoughts about the framework of this standard and upon availing themselves of a copy of the Draft, to discuss what is important for the understanding of languages and dialects, written, spoken or signed and other linguistic entities.

During the summit incompatibilities of applications were demonstrated which brought about a clear mapping of what is missing and where there is still the need for improvement. The elements that were distilled during the conference were placed on the WikiforStandards in real-time and can now be seen and edited at http://www.wikiforstandards.org/

The intense participation of attendees in the workshops has brought about tangible results for future summits, and identified areas that require further work. In addition to this, the Language Standards for Global Business summit in Vienna saw lively collaboration and effective discussions during the conference as well as in the breaks, with very positive results. This has laid the basis for further discussion on the WikiforStandards, and future LSGBs.

The next LSGB will take place in Boston in 2007. More details to be announced soon at http://www.internationalization-conference.org/.
