College students headed back to school can save money on textbooks using an expanded and improved BookAnt.

The site offers a new approach to buying, selling, and requesting college textbooks. Registered students can use the site to save money, or to make it back. 43 percent of students surveyed by eBay in July 2004 said they had chosen not to purchase required textbooks for at least one class in an attempt to save money. Shan Pesaru, the founder of BookAnt.com, hopes his site will help to combat the rising cost of higher education.
Pesaru built a prototype site as an undergraduate at Georgia Tech to save fellow students money. In developing BookAnt, Pesaru placed special emphasis on time-saving features, including email alerts, an intuitive search engine for browsing books, and mobile access from cell phones, so students will be able to check book prices anywhere.
“This site is about convenience and saving money,” Pesaru said. “By buying their books on BookAnt, students don’t have to deal with shipping or posting on campus bulletin boards, and they can get their books for less from other students at their university.”
