Scott McCloud's "Making Comics" seminars tour across the 50 states.

Raleigh, NC (PRWeb) January 9, 2007 -- On January 16, 2007, Scott McCloud, one of the country's leading cartoonists and popular scholars of comics, and his family will make a stop in Raleigh on their 50-state tour for McCloud's "Making Comics" seminar, sponsored by Lulu.com. The seminar will be held at 7 p.m. at North Carolina State University's Talley Student Center.

"To celebrate the HarperCollins release of Making Comics - and because we've always wanted an excuse to do it - the family and I are going to visit all 50 states, plus a country or three," says McCloud.

The seminars, which began in New York in September 2006 and will conclude in Hawaii in August 2007, will focus on McCloud's most recent book, Making Comics, and the different ideologies about the artist's future markets.

"Lulu is extremely excited to be a part of the McClouds' celebration," said Bob Young, founder and CEO of Lulu.com. "Not only is this a great opportunity for the McCloud family, we believe that this tour is also a great opportunity for the public to gain such a scholarly insight into the world of comics."

Despite this extensive celebration, Making Comics is not McCloud's first release. McCloud published his first comic book series, Zot!, by the age of 24 and has since published several other series and books. His 1993 publication of Understanding Comics explores the life of comics, such as the definition, history, vocabulary and methods.

In recent years, American comics have struggled toward maturity as "graphic novels," translated Japanese comics have created a massive new generation of readers and Web comics have challenged the very definition of the medium. McCloud's seminars unlock the secrets of this ever-changing art form in a fast-moving visual presentation.

In addition to the public appearances, the McCloud family plans to blog their entire trip, including their personal experiences and interviews with other comic artists around the country.

"We plan to have a lot of fun and we hope you'll be part of it all when we come to your state," says McCloud.
