Author Marjorie Harshaw Robie draws from the Harshaw Diaries to preserve an epic piece of Ireland's history in Dwelling Place of Dragons.
Ipswich, MA (PRWeb) January 12, 2007 -- Dwelling Place of Dragons, a new book by Marjorie Harshaw Robie, is a fascinating and insightful account of the historical happenings in Ireland between 1830 and 1849. In the book, Robie achieves a truly unique perspective by sharing the writings of three ordinary yet extraordinary Irishmen.
During the mid-19th century, Ireland's predominantly Catholic population fought to gain independence from England's oppressive government. Dwelling Place of Dragons centers on the stresses that took place within the Protestant community of Ulster and shares the writings of James Harshaw, a local farmer; John Martin, Harshaw's nephew; and George Henderson, a friend of Martin and the editor of one of the most influential newspapers in Ulster.
These men and the motives that moved them to action had long been forgotten until Marjorie Harshaw Robie began work on a family history. The author's name is not a coincidence; she is, in fact, related to James Harshaw. Robie's subsequent research led to the recovery of the Harshaw Diaries, and now the tales of those three men are no longer hidden in the past.
James Harshaw recorded events as they happened and by doing so, documented a significant time in history for an entire country, as the Harshaw Diaries are now regarded as an Irish national treasure. Inspired by James Harshaw's sense of civic responsibility, Robie penned this remarkable book to exemplify the dangers of religious tyranny.
