2007 Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign

The seldom-discussed link between Valentine's Day and infidelity prompts infidelity expert to initiate an annual Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign.

(PRWeb) January 18, 2007 -- One woman has single-handedly set out to inform the world about the link between Valentine's Day and infidelity or extramarital affairs.

Infidelity at Its Peak on Valentine Day

Infidelity expert Ruth Houston, founder of InfidelityAdvice.com and author of Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, has spearheaded an annual Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign. Houston says "Valentine's Day is considered to be the most romantic day of the year -- But not if the romance is between your partner and someone else.

Infidelity doesn't take a back seat on Valentine's Day. In fact, it's the one day of the year when infidelity and extramarital affairs reach their peak. "

The Seldom-Discussed Side of Valentine's Day

"This is a side of Valentine's Day that no one talks about." says Houston. "Even though it's an issue that affects millions of Americans everyday. Based on current statistics, an estimated 50% to 70% of Americans are victims of infidelity. When you factor in emotional infidelity, cyber infidelity, same-sex infidelity and the ever increasing number of men who are victims of female infidelity, that percentage jumps to nearly 85%. Unfortunately, many of these infidelity victims have no idea their partner is having an affair."

Incriminating Valentine's Gifts

According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spend at least $13 billion each year on Valentine's gifts. A significant portion of that money is spent by cheaters buying gifts for their secret lovers. These gifts could prove to be their undoing since many will be delivered in person, and these purchases usually leave a paper trail."

Houston feels that unsuspecting infidelity victims, as well as individuals who suspect infidelity and have been unable to get proof thus far, deserve to know about this aspect of Valentine's Day. They can use it to their advantage.

How the Campaign Got Its Start

"I started this Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign 4 years ago because during the course of my ongoing infidelity research, I discovered that very little had been written about the link between Valentine's Day and infidelity. I found that surprising since infidelity affects millions of Americans," Houston said.

Houston, a journalist with a background in public relations, approached the media 4 years ago with this unique idea: "Instead of the usual Valentine's Day stories about gifts to buy and romantic things to do, why not write about the side of Valentine's Day that no one talks about." Many of them rose to the challenge.

Houston's Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness campaign gathers momentum with each passing year. Last year's campaign resulted in media coverage as far away as South Africa, Bahrain, Turkey, India, France, China, Qatar, Viet Nam, Beirut, Pakistan, Canada, and the United Kingdom, in addition to all across the United States.

A Theme for Each Year's Awareness Campaign

Each year Houston chooses a different theme for the campaign. "Since the workplace now ties with the internet as the #1 place where cheaters find partners for extramarital affairs," says Houston, "this year's theme is 'Valentine's Day Signs of a Workplace Affair.'"

The theme for the first year was Is Your Valentine the Cheating Kind? Houston designed a 7-question quiz so women could rate their mate by his background, history, and character traits to determine if they were married to or dating a potential cheater.

The second year's theme was How Valentine's Day Gifts Can Expose a Cheating Husband. Houston discussed how cheating husbands can be exposed by the Valentine's Day gifts they give.

Last year's theme, which generated the most extensive coverage thus far, was Valentine's Day is the Best Time to Catch a Cheating Mate. Houston revealed how and where to find tangible proof of an affair on the most romantic day of the year.

Balanced Coverage of Valentine's Day

Says Houston, I hope that this year, for the sake of balanced coverage, more media outlets will do a Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness series, using two or more of the Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness themes -- or at least cover the new campaign on Valentine's Day and workplace affairs.
