Program mobilizes inspectors to ensure compliance with updated requirements of NFPA 80.
By mobilizing certified fire door inspectors we are confident that any non-compliant assemblies will be quickly identified

(PRWEB) October 19, 2007 -- Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, has launched the Certified Fire Door Inspector Program. Through the program, potential inspectors will be trained to properly perform inspections of fire-rated door assemblies to the 2007 edition of NFPA 80: Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. Upon successfully completing the training regimen and becoming certified, inspectors will conduct annual inspections of assemblies in the field to ensure ongoing compliance and safety.

The 2007 edition of NFPA 80 now requires annual inspections by subject experts of all fire-rated door assemblies including swinging doors with builders' hardware. To facilitate this massive undertaking, Intertek will certify inspectors who have successfully completed the Door and Hardware Institute's (DHI) Fire Door Assembly Inspection Class (FDAIC), completed applicable DHI pre-requisite classes, and passed Intertek's written exam.

"By mobilizing certified fire door inspectors we are confident that any non-compliant assemblies will be quickly identified," said Jeff Turcotte, vice president, Intertek. "The industry will surely benefit from an innovative means of determining compliance and ensuring life safety."

Once a certified inspector has determined that an assembly is compliant with NFPA 80 they may apply an Intertek label specific to the program, pictured to the right. The label indicates that the inspection was conducted by a certified fire door inspector as well as the year of the inspection. Through the presence of a label backed by an industry preferred brand in Intertek (Warnock Hersey), Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) can be assured that inspections have been properly and accurately performed.
