The United States Patent & Trademark Office had recently issued new rules that would make the filing of continuation patent applications and divisional patent applications much more restrictive. Additionally, the USPTO had issued rules that restricted the examination of patent claims. Fortunately, implementation of these rules, planned for November 1, 2007, was suspended by a court injunction. In time these new rules may come into play, but for now, filing and examination of patent applications remains under the old rules.
