Tallahassee based underground independent music project Stardust Plantation releases All That I Wanted on CD and MP3 on cdBaby.com

Tallahassee, Fl. (PRWEB) November 5, 2007 -- Stardust Plantation the Tallahassee, Fl based independent music project featuring punkabilly crooner Johnny Fire and musician/film maker Matthew S. Smith has announced the release of their latest creative effort All That I Wanted. Joined by the luscious Mary T on backing vocals and the enigmatic Jabùwi on synthesizers, guitar, and drum programming, the foursome have created an eclectic sound that draws upon their wide ranging influences and talents.

Fire displays an amazing versatility as a song writer and musician by stepping away from his country roots to create the foundations for songs ranging in style from in your face alternative rock to hip-hop to ethereal electronica. Playing guitar, synthesizer, drums, and drum programming, he shows his prowess as a musical force to be reckoned with. Smith, who is primarily known as a writer and director of independent films, adds his unique lyrical impressions and vocal styling along with bass guitar, to the effort to create a sometimes dark, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, always fun musical experience.

I was blown away when I heard the Plantation's stuff because it represented such a breadth of style, and really sounds nothing like Johnny's solo work. 'Who are these guys?' I thought. 'I've got to help get this music heard.'

The band lists as its musical influences the likes of George Clinton, Iggy Pop, the Butthole Surfers, and Brian Eno, to name only a few. These extremes of genre shine though in all their tunes from the ballad and title track All That I Wanted to the funky yet minimal Triphop Funkadelic Allstars. Never afraid to get dirty, Fire shows he can tear it up with some nasty but tight guitar on the lead-off track All Tore Up. Yet the group is not afraid to explore their mellower side on other cuts like Interlude One and Dream Wave.

The genesis of the project started as the brain child of Smith who has worked with Fire for years and the two have collaborated with notable musicians such as George Clinton III, and Jerome Rodgers of P-Funk. Meeting Mary T and Jabùwi in 2005, at a Johnny Fire gig at Florida State University in Tallahassee, the four immediately hit it off and the creative gears started turning. With Mary T and Jabùwi living in Fort Myers, more than 400 miles away, the group had to develop techniques for long distance collaboration. They would get together in Tallahassee or Fort Myers when possible but much of the work was done over the internet using an FTP server, set up by Jabùwi, to transfer tracks back and forth as they developed their musical ideas into completed songs.

Executive producer Jamie Wilson says "When I first heard Johnny's solo CD Southern Depression I was impressed with the depth of emotion and the strength and quality of the songs." Some of those songs were co-written by Smith. "I was blown away when I heard the Plantation's stuff because it represented such a breadth of style, and really sounds nothing like Johnny's solo work. 'Who are these guys?' I thought. 'I've got to help get this music heard.'" To that end Wilson is offering to send the disc, for free, to any music bloggers that are interested in spreading the word about some truly independent underground alternative music.
