We are excited to build on the success of our Lexile National Reading Conference by expanding its focus to include The Lexile Framework for Writing and The Quantile Framework for Mathematics

Durham, N.C. (PRWEB) November 14, 2007 -- MetaMetrics® Inc. announced today that its 2008 Lexile® National Conference & Quantile® Symposium is planned for June 16-19 at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. Now in its fifth year, the conference's focus has been expanded to include the recently launched Lexile Framework® for Writing and The Quantile Framework® for Mathematics with the theme, "Successful Teachers, Successful Students." Sessions will explore successful strategies for raising student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics and ways to ensure that students are prepared for success in postsecondary education, the workplace and life. The conference is designed for classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum and instruction specialists, school and public librarians, and researchers.

As the most widely adopted reading measure, The Lexile Framework for Reading provides a common, developmental scale for matching reader ability and text difficulty. Launched in September 2007, The Lexile Framework for Writing expresses student writing ability on the same Lexile scale as reading ability, providing educators with a consistent and straightforward method to monitor growth in both reading and writing and to reinforce the importance of reading in the development of writing skills.

The Quantile Framework for Mathematics uses a common, developmental scale to measure student mathematics achievement, the difficulty of mathematical skills and concepts and the materials for teaching mathematics. By placing the curriculum, teaching materials and students on the same scale, Quantiles enable educators to predict which mathematical skills and concepts a student is ready to learn and those that will require additional instruction.

Keynote presenters already slated to participate in the 2008 Lexile National Reading Conference & Quantile Symposium include author and international literacy consultant Quality Quinn; Willard R. "Bill" Daggett, Ed.D., president, International Center for Leadership in Education; education consultant Tom Welch; Angela Shelf Medearis, award-winning author and founder of Diva Productions Inc. and Book Boosters Inc; and MetaMetrics' co-founders Malbert Smith III, Ph.D., and A. Jackson Stenner, Ph.D.

"We are excited to build on the success of our Lexile National Reading Conference by expanding its focus to include The Lexile Framework for Writing and The Quantile Framework for Mathematics," said MetaMetrics' President Smith. "Educators from around the world are using the three measurement frameworks to link assessment with instruction. Our conference is an opportunity for them to come together and share best practices for using Lexiles and Quantiles to differentiate instruction in ways that improve student achievement."

Nearly 1,000 educators attended MetaMetrics' 2007 Lexile National Reading Conference last June in Orlando. Some of the attendees, such as Margaret Reed, reading specialist from East Elementary of Kodiak Island Borough School District in Alaska, have been attending the conference annually since its inception.

"The first Lexile Conference was held in 2004, and I have not missed one since," said Reed. "The Lexile Framework for Reading is a tool that has facilitated reading growth in my students more than any other single tool. For this conference, MetaMetrics melds together the highest quality speakers, information and ideas to create a meaningful conference that will have an immediate and lasting impact on students."

Discounted early bird registration for the conference is available until May 16, 2008. Attendees who register now will save $100 off the regular registration rate for the entire four-day Lexile National Conference & Quantile Symposium. Registration includes access to all keynote, concurrent and pre-conference sessions, conference exhibits and presentation materials. A special conference room rate of $199 per night is available at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter through May 23.
