Mobile tech pioneer Earthcomber LLC today launched its widely acclaimed “personal radar” service for the first time on standard desktop and notebook computers.

Chicago (MobilityNewswire) November 20, 2007 -- Mobile tech pioneer Earthcomber LLC today launched its widely acclaimed “personal radar” service for the first time on standard desktop and notebook computers.

The move to bring the Earthcomber's patented location-scanning search display to big screens recognizes travelers' planning and on-the-spot needs to “virtually-visit” job assignments, vacation stops or weekend trips, company officials said.

It's entirely different than satellite view or just plain maps. It’s all the things you care about, pointed out around you, and it's really fun.
“This lets anybody click a mouse and get a complete, personal 'lay-of-the-land,' in a few seconds,” said James V. Brady, Earthcomber's president. “It's entirely different than satellite view or just plain maps. It’s all the things you care about, pointed out around you, and it's really fun.”

At startup, Earthcomber.com puts the user's location on a local map. The exploring can begin, or the user can relocate using an address, phone number, picking a city, or simply dragging the trademark kiwi-bird pointer.

Clicking any of the themes, such as Nightlife, Fun Times, or Let's Eat, opens an assortment of places, each identified by obvious icons. A single tap can produce hundreds of choices, organized by category and proximity. Printable details and directions are one click. Many spots have vivid reviews, ratings, even pictures.

Restaurants, movie theaters (with listings), bars, essentials, business needs are provided. So are hot-spots for free WiFi, nature sites, activities, events, historical places and special interest sites. More than 10 million places around the USA are there for the user’s personal preferences.

A user can spot or hide from their “Peeps” - friends, family, or coworkers. Optional IDs let each person's favorites travel with them from desktop to mobile phone or a borrowed browser.

Earthcomber is available free for iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile and most web-ready cell phones. Direct links are offered on the web portals of Verizon and on Palm devices. Earthcomber can be installed from the Download! channel on many Nokia Series 60 phones. Or, to access directly: http://mobile.earthcomber.com

By registering for a free account on www.earthcomber.com, users can customize their searches, adding their own favorites to the preset lists, or creating their own, or joining interest groups on the site to share discoveries. Currently, Earthcomber covers the United States only.
