Ultimate Ski Conditions section on weather.com provides exclusive “Top to Bottom” videos, ski planning resources, and more.

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) December 5, 2007 -- The Weather Channel Interactive, Inc. (TWCI) today announced the debut of an enhanced ski section on weather.com featuring exclusive videos, snow conditions and forecasts and all the tools necessary to plan a trip to the slopes. To mark the new ski season and the debut of the new section, The Weather Channel Network is celebrating Ski Week, featuring ski content with reports from the nation’s top resorts, nightly ski reports, viewer-submitted videos and more. Ski Week will air each night during Evening Edition(9-11pm) from December 3 – 7.

The new weather.com ski section, located at www.weather.com/ski, offers exclusive features including action-packed Top to Bottom Videos by Warren Miller Productions, a comprehensive ski resort finder, 3-D maps and a ski news section that includes local headlines, events, snow cams and activities. Visitors can also create their own Snow Watcher page to track and compare conditions at up to 10 resorts simultaneously.

Weather and snow conditions can make or break a ski trip so we made finding the best conditions the focal point of our ski section. We also stocked the section with tips, personalized tools and in-depth information on dozens of resorts to assist skiers with every aspect of planning their vacation
The site’s newest attraction is the thrilling Top to Bottom videos produced by Warren Miller Productions. The exclusive videos provide users virtual insight into some of the country’s top slopes, while ski professionals from leading resorts provide play-by-play commentary as they make their way down the resort’s signature run. A few of the ski destination spots highlighted in the videos include Stowe, VT, Breckenridge, CO, Jackson Hole, WY, Snowbasin, UT and Whiteface Mountain, NY.    Also new this season is “Snow Joke”— the opportunity to make you or your friends the subject of a hilarious animated web-video for sharing, posting to your social networking site and more.

“Weather and snow conditions can make or break a ski trip so we made finding the best conditions the focal point of our ski section. We also stocked the section with tips, personalized tools and in-depth information on dozens of resorts to assist skiers with every aspect of planning their vacation,” said Deslie Quinby, vice president of weather.com and marketing, TWCI. “Whether it’s where to go or what to wear, weather.com is a must-visit before you book your trip to the slopes.”

Additional features of the ski section include:

  • The Deep Stuff, which lists the top 25 resorts with the most recent snowfall reported and forecasted. The section provides details regarding the amount of new snow received, the base depth of the snow and details of the current surface conditions.
  • A ski index that provides a numeric ranking of ski resorts based on how enjoyable the resort should be during your visit depending on the weather forecast and the snow conditions for specific dates.
  • The Snow Watcher page allows users to create personalized ski pages that track ski conditions for their preferred resorts. Able to track up to 10 resorts at a time, users can monitor the current conditions as well as the upcoming weather forecast for all of their favorite destinations.
  • The ski news page provides the latest news headlines from resorts around the world. In partnership with OnTheSnow.com, ski news provides regional news including local stories, events and activities.
  • With the new interactive 3D maps feature, users can pan and zoom around ski resorts, including views from the mountain top, ski slopes and town center.
  • The Snow Joke (www.snowjoke.com) game is the most interactive section on the site, allowing users to create their own ski or snowboard video. By including photos, voice and choice of headgear, users can send these entertaining videos along to friends, family or post to their website, blog or social networking profile.

In addition, after visiting the ski section on weather.com, users can locate their ideal vacation rental for their next ski vacation on forGetaway.com. Select from thousands of adventurous mountain ski retreats including Lake Tahoe, Aspen, Breckenridge and Park City.
