Along with 100 Positive Influencers, Magazine Highlights 'Those We Aren't Going to Miss' for Business Ethics

New York (PRWEB) December 12, 2007 -- Ethisphere Magazine, a global print publication dedicated to illuminating the important correlation between ethics and profit, announced today the inclusion of "Learning from Others' Mistakes: The Top 10 People We Won't Miss" as a sidebar to the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics. The complete list will be published in the Q4 issue, available globally in December, and available online at www.ethisphere.com/influential.

TNews Imagehis less-than-prestigious list highlights questionable or boorish behavior which still had a positive ultimate effect on business ethics and ethical leadership. This list includes the dean of admissions from a prestigious university who lied about having more than a high school diploma (she didn't), a private equity titan who angered the rest of his industry by throwing himself an over-the-top lavish birthday party, the intern who called the police to report that his radar detector (as well as nearly a million social security numbers) was stolen out of his car, and other questionable influencers.

caused many companies to take their hotline reports and internal office gossip more seriously
"Though these individuals made some bold moves, embarrassing slip-ups or simply poor choices, their actions managed to inspire change in business practice," said Ethisphere Editor Stefan Linssen. "We feel that they still hold a place as a business influencer, albeit a negative one, because they helped raise the visibility of the need for sound corporate social responsibility nd ethical practices
worldwide."

The article provides a bright side by offering a look at how these individuals inspired change. One individual "caused many companies to take their hotline reports and internal office gossip more seriously" while another influencer "motivated Wall Street Journal reporters to write stories about how little employees make," and still another "inspired employers to redouble their background verification checks."

The same panel of ethics experts who nominated the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics for positive influence also submitted their nominations for the individuals who "won't be missed." The panel included ethics experts from major universities including New York University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Delaware, and Arizona State University.

Those recognized in the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics for positive ethical leadership and practices included, among others:

  • Gerald Grinstein, retired CEO of Delta Airlines
  • Greg Farrell, USA Today journalist and respected business author
  • Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive of Tesco
  • Al Gore, Nobelaureate and Former Vice-President of the U.S.
  • H. Lee Scott Jr., President and CEO of Wal-Mart

The Q4 issue will also feature "Amnesty -- The Rush to Self Report," which will detail the Department of Justice's apparent leniency towards companies that admit guilt in price-fixing scandals, as well as the regular "Global Compliance" section, which will focus on conducting business in Israel.

Thought provoking, informative, and at times irreverent, Ethisphere Magazine offers insight to readers on gaining market share and creating sustainable competitive advantage through ethical business practices and corporate citizenship. With a circulation of 65,000 Board members, CEOs, General Counsel, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officers and senior executives, Ethisphere Magazine is the largest print publication in compliance, ethics and corporate social
responsibility.
