Vector Networks Announces the Availability of Vector IT Asset Manager Pro v5

New version adds network device discovery and mapping.

Atlanta, GA, Montreal, Canada, and Sheffield, UK (PRWEB) December 21, 2007 -- Vector Networks today announced the general availability of version 5 of the company's IT Asset Management software suite.

Vector IT Asset Manager Pro v5 further unifies Vector's Asset and Service Management capabilities. Both solutions work well together because they share Vector's PC Inventory module functionality which has been updated to include discovery, interrogation, and mapping of managed network devices. These features strengthen the already rich CMDB foundation of Vector's solutions by expanding the range of asset information collected, and by providing support teams with access to graphical definition of the network location of individual PCs.

The drive to a unified repository of asset information to support both asset management and the real-time demands of incident and problem management has been given more weight by successive iterations of the ITIL guidelines.
Erick Yanez, Vector's Montreal-based VP Development noted, "The drive to a unified repository of asset information to support both asset management and the real-time demands of incident and problem management has been given more weight by successive iterations of the ITIL guidelines." "But," Yanez pointed out, "the benefits of a shared asset database are available to organizations irrespective of whether they decide to formally adopt those guidelines. And you don't have to be a big corporation to take advantage of this approach."

Colin Bartram, Vector Networks Technologies' VP of Product Strategy added, "Ever since we introduced access to Inventory data in the Vector HelpDesk issue tracking interface, our Service Management customers from fifty PCs to thousands of PCs have been interested in providing their support teams with access to more information that can further help streamline their activities and reduce issue resolution times. When customers heard about the developments in mapping PCs to network ports, they were in no uncertain terms about wanting that information too."

v5 of Asset Manager Pro includes Vista support for the Software Inventory, Hardware Inventory, Software Package Policy Manager and Software Usage Monitoring functions.

Usability has been enhanced in v5 through a redesigned main Client View, which is used to display lists of selected Clients. This view is now fully customizable, with wizard driven selection of data columns and sort orders, with font sizes and colors and background colors selectable per column. The Dynamic Group method in AM Pro, where PCs are selected on demand by any possible combination of criteria, has been linked to the new Client View architecture, so customers can specify a Client View format for each Dynamic Group - such as all PCs with MS Office 2003 installed and less than 1GB RAM.

Vector Asset Manager Pro is priced from USD $30 per managed PC (at 100 PCs) with volume discounts and site licenses available. A free 30-day trial download is available at www.vector-networks.com.
