Company to sponsor two "Children In The Wilderness" camps.
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) December 29, 2007 -- Tauck World Discovery has announced their first-ever international charitable grant. The grant, part of Tauck's larger "World Of Giving" philanthropic efforts, will be used to sponsor two week-long educational camps for children in need in South Africa, as part of the Children in the Wilderness program there.
Tauck will sponsor its first program at the Pafuri Camp in Kruger Park, South Africa in December of this year. The Pafuri Camp, which normally hosts paying vacationers, will be closed to guests for the duration of the week-long program. Using environmental education and therapeutic recreation, the Children in the Wilderness program exposes children to new opportunities, increases their self-esteem and enhances their ability to cope with challenges, while educating them with the life skills necessary to realize their full potential. Tauck's second camp will be held in December, 2008.
Tauck's World Of Giving efforts include dozens of destination grants to National Parks and historic sites throughout the U.S. The World Of Giving also operates Tauck employee volunteerism events and supports a wide range of local community grants, as well as a host of other initiatives promoting sustainable tourism and youth education.
The flagship World Of Giving program facilitates volunteerism opportunities for guests taking a Yellowstone National Park tour on two Tauck itineraries. In five years, more than 8,000 Tauck volunteers have contributed some 15,000 hours of labor to dozens of preservation projects in Yellowstone. The program has been honored at the White House with the nation's highest honor for historic preservation, the Preserve America Presidential Award, and by the U.S. Interior Department.
About Children In The Wilderness
Children in the Wilderness is dedicated to helping children whose childhoods have been interrupted and disrupted by life threatening conditions such as illness, poverty and the HIV/Aids epidemic. The program hosts children aged 8 to 17 in groups of up to 30 at a time, for periods of up to a week, at no cost. A well-structured curriculum is offered in a safe wilderness environment where nature becomes the teacher and the healer, aided by experienced and well-trained counselors.
