Aquarion and other U.S. companies to participate in national Groundhog Job Shadow Day for tenth consecutive year.

Bridgeport, CT (PRWeb) February 2, 2007 -- A team of Aquarion Water Company executives and professionals on Friday will have some special "shadows" this Groundhog Day - regardless of what Punxsutawney Phil does.

While there has been nothing typical about winter this year in New England, Aquarion's participating executives and professionals - like scores throughout the country - will remain focused on another aspect of the season. On Friday, they will allow student members of Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut to observe their performance and benefit from their expertise for the tenth straight year.

A nationwide program, the event was planned to afford America's future a personal look at careers and the people who excel in them. Executives and professional mentors in the U.S. from thousands of businesses invite millions of young people to share their day.

Aquarion Water Company is pleased to participate as a major Connecticut area sponsor of Junior Achievement. The water utility also was a founding partner of National Job Shadow Day in 1997. "We continue to participate in national Job Shadow Day and several similar mentoring opportunities, because we can instill worthwhile professional values in the lives of our bright, ambitious young people," said Adrienne Vaughan, Director of Corporate Communications. Other Aquarion participants said they eagerly anticipate Friday's shadowing because it demonstrates to young people that water-related careers are rewarding professions.

The program also demonstrates their personal and professional commitments to Aquarion's Junior Achievement partnership and educational sponsorship in its service areas.

Participants are: Manager of Watershed and Environmental Management Len DeJong, and Director of Human Resources and Customer Services Jean Zanella Dyer.

More than 100,000 businesses in the U.S. are expected to participate in National Job Shadow Day 2007. America's Promise, Junior Achievement, School-to-Work, and the American Society of Association Executives created National Job Shadow Day in 1997 to demonstrate the skills and education that youngsters need to build successful careers.

Aquarion Company's principal business is public water supply. Through its Aquarion Water Company subsidiaries, it is one of the 10 largest investor-owned water utilities in the U.S., serving 221,000 homes and businesses, or approximately 714,000 people, in 52 Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire communities. Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut provides high-quality water to 176,000 customers, or more than 600,000 people, in 36 cities and towns.
