Author challenges children, youth, and adults everywhere to be active readers and writers.
Los Angeles, California, USA, Earth (PRWeb) February 3, 2007 -- Terry S. Goudy, published by iUniverse, Inc., announced today the recent publication of STAR PARK: First Adventure, a science fiction fantasy novel for ages ten and up. The author comments, "In writing this first book, I've laid down the gauntlet and challenged everyone to establish or renew the habit of being active readers and writers in 2007. If I can finish writing a book, anyone else can finish their particular writing project, too, one step at a time. You have a voice. You have something to say, even if it's simply a school book report, a creative writing assignment, an essay, a thank you note to someone, an email at work, a procedures manual, or special thoughts in a Valentines Day card.
"I love to read the newspaper and magazines on my lunch hour. To open up the paper and see all that is happening helps me to become a more aware and well-rounded person. I love fiction books as much as non-fiction books. Fiction books can often be 'how-to' books in disguise, because they reveal things about successful life skills that are more caught than taught."
Star Park works for kids somewhat along the lines of a Chronicles of Narnia type of adventure, with the added benefit for teens and adults of an Animal Farm type of allegory.
In this adventure novel, sixteen-year-old Scott Freeman and his fifteen-year-old sister, winners of a globally-publicized contest, blast off in a shuttle to visit Star Park, the first-ever world-sized virtual reality world on a space station.
Scott Freeman is a normal teen who enjoys sports, games, and computers. But he's plunged into danger soon after arriving at Star Park. In the adventure on the space station, Scott must figure out secret code words in order for him and his sister to escape the virtual reality world gone awry and break free to be able to return to Earth.
"I give all the credit to my Grandma Wilson in helping me to get started in thinking of myself as a writer in third grade. Writing has been my passion since that time. If you don't have anybody who has encouraged you to be a reader and a writer, please accept my personal challenge and encouragement to be an active reader and writer. I had the benefit of my family and many excellent teachers that encouraged me and I am very thankful. Observing my twenty-one nieces and nephews and my own daughter and autistic son growing up, has been my best education and inspiration in writing this story for children, youth, and adults," Goudy said.
