London (PRWeb) February 7, 2007 -- The search business operates out of the London Stock Exchange listed group's Search Focus division, which also houses finance and leisure vertical search sites.
"As the world increasingly enters into Web 2.0 mode, it becomes more and more important to provide sophisticated users with a platform that quickly and accurately meets their needs," said Justin Drummond, CEO of Media Corporation plc, the London-based company that owns Search Focus.
"We have been doing that by building the expertise of our in-house team by encouraging them to try new approaches and by hiring new skilled staff. We're delivering Search 2.0."
Search 2.0, the logical offshoot from Web 2.0, is about filtering and personalising search and it is now gaining increased traction in a number of sectors. Unlike general search engines like Google and MSN, which search the whole net, vertical search engines such as the one deployed on gambling.com, only delivers results from within its specific industry sector.
Search Focus also employs an editorial team that adds specific content of direct relevance. Together with its technology, this has helped keep Media Corp websites consistently at the top of general search rankings,
A recent study by Outsell, a consultancy that studies content businesses, found that the search failure rate among business users of the major search engines is 32%, which means nearly a third of queries produce unsatisfactory results.
"Visitors who don't get quick relevant results don't stay long on the site and are not inclined to revisit, so we work hard at keeping our quality high", Mr Drummond.
"All our vertical sites have a strict editorial policy that ensures a keyword search will yield only what the user asks for, and not a list of marginally related, ad hoc stuff," he said.
"And advertisers get increased, pre-qualified, quality traffic."
The fast-growing Media Corp recently bought creditcardexpert.co.uk, a vertical search site aimed at consumers focusing on all aspects of the UK credit card market.
