JME Sofware announces DEADBOLT -- next-generation access control software for the mainframe. DEADBOLT reduces security risk, lowers software license and maintenance costs, simplifies security administration and supports compliance and audit reporting requirements.
Sugar Land, TX (PRWeb) February 8, 2007 -- JME Software (JME), a leading innovator of tools and applications that simplify the management of IT infrastructure across the enterprise, today announced the availability of DEADBOLT --next-generation access control software for the mainframe. DEADBOLT reduces security risk, lowers software license and maintenance costs, simplifies security administration and supports compliance and audit reporting requirements.
Advanced mainframe hardware is hobbled by aging legacy security software that is costly to maintain and difficult to administer. To make matters worse, the number of employees with mainframe skills is diminishing and many industry observers see a crisis looming as large numbers of "baby boomers" reach retirement age.
"We believe the mainframe possesses inherent architectural and management advantages for today's dynamic, highly adaptive and demanding operational environments, and the fact is the mainframe is far from extinct, showing double-digit growth around the world", says Richard Ptak, Principal Analyst, Ptak, Noel & Associates. "JME Software is making a wise investment as it creates feature-rich alternatives to mainframe management and administrative applications that have long been showing their age."
DEADBOLT provides a modern web-browser interface for security administration, making it accessible to today's work force. It also provides advanced testing facilities, online reporting from a relational database, real-time alerts, role-based security permissions, and a built-in incident tracking system. DEADBOLT simply provides more effective security, solves the looming demographic problem, reduces administration and training costs, lowers the risk of mistakes and supports a company's need to meet regulatory compliance requirements.
"It's clean, intuitive and progressive. At last -- an interface with real time cross-checking" says Mark Hahn, respected author and security expert. "Point and click profile maintenance, safe and easy testing, native real-time alerts and dynamic event reporting -- what next?"
But replacing one security system with another is not a task to be undertaken lightly. Conversions have historically been expensive, time-consuming, and not without a certain amount of risk. DEADBOLT provides breakthrough technology, which all but eliminates the usual risks of conversion.
The secret lies in DEADBOLT's ability to run alongside RACF®, eTrust® CA-ACF2® or eTrust® CA-Top Secret in a unique "secondary mode," observing their operation. This new technology allows us to dramatically reduce conversion risk. In a matter of minutes, legacy security permissions are copied into DEADBOLT's relational database and the system is ready to run. No system Initial Program Load (IPL) or other modification is necessary.
For the first time, two security systems can be running in parallel on the same machine at the same time without conflict. DEADBOLT running in secondary mode looks at the same security information that the legacy product sees. It will even tell you if it doesn't agree with RACF's, ACF2's or Top Secret's decisions, but will not interfere with them.
While DEADBOLT silently mirrors the legacy access-control system, security personnel can monitor all permissions, are able to perform real-time ad hoc reporting and ask "what if" questions about the security events they observe. Within a short period of time, DEADBOLT can be designated the "primary" access control system to enable full enforcement capabilities and safe removal of the legacy product.
"We've assembled a world-class development team that includes the original designers and authors of ACF2 and Examine (now CA products), and a cadre of experts in related areas" said Barry Schrager, Vice President of Development, JME Software. "By using the latest tools and technology we have delivered a next generation product that reduces risk, improves security and lowers operational cost."
JME Software will demonstrate DEADBOLT in booth #520 at the SHARE Technology Exchange in Tampa, Florida the week of February 12th, 2007.
Pricing and Availability
DEADBOLT is currently available for mainframe systems and will be available for other platforms beginning in the fall of 2007. For customers who elect to convert from their legacy access-control software, JME is offering a "zero-cost" incremental conversion price. Pricing can be obtained by contacting the company at (866) 403-2838 or sales@jmesoftware.com.
