PhotoUpLink, a new iPhoto plugin for Mac OS X, connects images and video to any server, database or document.
Oakland, CA (PRWeb) February 13, 2007 -- PhotoUpLink -- a simple way to export videos and photos from Apple iPhoto to FTP, databases or documents -- is now available for download and purchase at www.photouplink.com.
PhotoUpLink is the first Mac plugin that enables users to FTP directly from iPhoto to any existing FTP or secure FTP server without requiring further registration or additional downloads. The application makes it possible to send image and video binary data from iPhoto directly to any ODBC data source. PhotoUpLink also integrates iPhoto with Microsoft Office applications.
After a typical upload, users are notified of the location of the files and must then login to begin the download process. PhotoUpLink streamlines this process with innovative e-mail attachments that automatically import these files into a local iPhoto album or Windows My Pictures folder. Photos and videos are not limited by size restrictions or e-mail server limits, as the PhotoUpLink-generated e-mail triggers the downloads directly from the designated FTP site.
PhotoUpLink FTP also enables users of many major photo-sharing Web sites such as Fotki and Flickr to include their iPhoto keywords using IPTC header information embedded in the uploaded copy of the file. This allows users to upload to any site that supports FTP or SFTP with just one plugin.
"PhotoUpLink gives me the control and flexibility I need to make iPhoto a powerful tool in my daily workflow. PhotoUpLink finishes the job where iPhoto's feature set falls short," said Alec Pollak, a veteran web creative director and prolific digital photographer. "In today's world a photo management app needs to have solid and versatile web integration - including keyword/tag embedding. PhotoUpLink makes it all happen."
PhotoUpLink's data features allow export of catalog information to Excel or FileMaker and SQL database. ODBC export sends both meta data and the binary information of any group of images and video to any ODBC data source that supports binary large objects, including MySQL, Oracle, IBM DB 2 or Microsoft SQL Server.
"PhotoUpLink is a fantastic product that combines the ease of use of iPhoto with the power to connect to a back-end database," said Jonathan Monroe, Managing Partner of Actual Technologies, LLC. "When combined with Actual Technologies ODBC drivers, ordinary users finally have the ability to upload their photos to a MySQL database. This opens exciting new possibilities for photo sharing." These drivers together with PhotoUpLink create a comprehensive, accessible media warehousing solution.
For users of Microsoft Office on the Mac, PhotoUpLink will create a PowerPoint presentation or Word document based on the selected photos. "This really takes the manual labor out of setting up the Word Documents or PowerPoint presentations. Simply organize the images in the sequence you want within the iPhoto album. PhotoUpLink then positions the images and comment text for you automatically on each page or slide, a starting point from which users can easily resize, relocate, and add information," said PhotoUpLink creator and author Mark Morris.
Rounding out the feature set of PhotoUpLink are the convenient panorama creator and QuickTime movie joining tool. Short QuickTime movies are often imported into iPhoto from many devices. Joining them in any sequence is possible simply by moving them around within the iPhoto album and then exporting to PhotoUpLink. Panoramas are handled in a similar fashion - arrange the photos in the iPhoto album, select them, and export to PhotoUpLink.
