America's favorite dog for 2007 is "Jiggs," a beach-loving, five year-old Dalmation from Orange, CA, who got more support from the voting public than seven other finalists in the second annual Dog Show USA presented by Purina online competition.

New York, NY (PRWeb) February 28, 2007 -- America's favorite dog for 2007 is "Jiggs," a beach-loving, five year-old Dalmation from Orange, CA, who got more support from the voting public than seven other finalists in the second annual Dog Show USA presented by Purina online competition.

The biggest dog show in America, Dog Show USA culminated today with the online announcement on www.dogshowusa.com that "Jiggs" and owner Suzi Wahl won "Best in Show" as the choice of website visitors. Over one million votes were cast for almost 10,000 entries through the course of the free, open competition at www.dogshowusa.com.

"I don't know who had more fun, Jiggs or me," said Wahl, who won an all-expenses paid trip to Philadelphia for The National Dog Show plus a one-year supply of Purina Pro Plan dog food. "It was awesome having people recognize Jiggs from seeing him on dogshowusa.com. I never expected this when we entered the competition. Now, I'm so glad that we did."

Jiggs succeeds Tillie, a Dachshund-cocker mix from Eagle View, CA, who was the voting public's favorite in the inaugural 2006 competition.

"Jiggs loves the beach, but he really loves any place where he can run and have fun," said Wahl, "He's definitely a jack of all trades and master of none, always the class clown."

Beginning three months ago on Thanksgiving Day, dog owners went to the interactive website www.dogshowusa.com and uploaded pictures, video and descriptions of their companions during the November/December holiday period. Voting by the judging panel of Seinfeld and Dancing with the Stars favorite John O'Hurley and Westminster and National Dog Show Presented by Purina analyst David Frei narrowed the field to 80 "Best In Show" candidates from the traditional groups - Working, Hound, Toy, Herding, Terrier, Sporting and Non-Sporting - plus a Mixed Breed/Other group.

The public then started voting, determining winners of each group. "Jiggs" emerged victorious when the votes for the final eight were tallied earlier this week. In the other categories, voters reduced the field to three dogs before selecting the winners.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Kenan Harkin of NBC Sports and Ernie Planck, Director of Breeder Enthusiast Marketing for Purina.

The Best In Show winner will be announced nationally at www.dogshowusa.com on Monday, February 26, and featured on national broadcast television Saturday, March 3, as part of Lincoln Financial NBC Sports Update .

Winners of the Dog Show USA Fun Categories are:

  • Best Trick - "Hudson," a Bernese Mountain Dog from Santa Monica, CA, owned by Danielle Gershberg
  • Owner Look Alike - "Ruby," a Dalmation from Port St. Luice, FL, owned by Cindy Economou
  • Cutest Dog - "Rufus," a mixed breed from Indianpolis, IN, owned by Michael Partington.
