LASIK Expert Dr. James Salz Highlights Advantages of "Wavefront" LASIK and PRK in Improving Patients to 20/20 Vision & Reducing Complications in U.S. News and World Report

Dr. Salz highlights the increased chances of obtaining 20/20 vision for LASIK and PRK refractive procedures while reducing complications in a U.S News and World Report article entitled "Years of Refinement Have Made Laser Eye Surgery Better Than Ever" by Michelle Andrews.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWeb) March 6, 2007 -- Dr. James Salz (www.drsalz.com) was recently interviewed for an article in U.S. News and World Report (www.usnews.com) entitled "Years of Refinement Have Made Laser Eye Surgery Better Than Ever" (www.usnews.com/usnews/health/articles/070225/5laser.htm) by Michelle Andrews. In the article, Dr. James Salz, discussed "wavefront" technology for LASIK and PRK refractive procedures. According to Dr. James Salz, "wavefront technology" increases the chance of obtaining 20/20 vision and reduces higher order aberrations such as glare and starbursts by providing a more precise map of the unique optical landscape of a patient's eyes. Dr. Salz can be seen performing the LASIK refractory surgery procedure on a patient in the accompanying photo (by Joey Terrill).

The article discusses LASIK, PRK, and other laser eye procedures, such as LASEK and Epi-LASIK, and interviews both patients who have had laser vision correction surgery and the doctors who perform these types of procedures. The article provides a good summary of eye conditions that can be improved with laser eye surgery procedures as well as some of the complications that can occur. In addition, the article notes what patients should look for in selecting a doctor in order to obtain the best results from LASIK, PRK or another laser vision correction surgery. As indicated in the article, while price and having the best technology (lasers) are important considerations, no amount of technology can make up for an inferior surgeon."

Years of Refinement Have Made Laser Eye Surgery Better Than Ever
"I was happy to have been consulted for this excellent article which highlights the major advances in Laser Vision Correction since we did our first of eight FDA clinical trials in 1990," Dr. James Salz commented. "I would also stress one point made in the article. While price and the quality of equipment are typically important factors for patients looking for a laser eye surgeon, I have been consulted by hundreds of patients over the last 10 years suffering from complications of laser vision correction surgery performed at other centers. With that in mind, I completely agree that there is no substitute for experience in choosing a LASIK doctor."

"Special reports such as this laser eye package is a prime example of our commitment to providing top-notch, reliable health care content on USNews.com's "Best Health" for consumers faced with important health decisions," said Brian Duffy, editor of U.S.News & World Report. "It is part of our effort to ensure that the public turns to U.S. News for vital health care information, whenever it's needed."

The article is available online at: www.usnews.com/usnews/health/articles/070225/5laser.htm

The newsstand version of the article is in the March 5, 2007 issue of U.S. News & World Report.
