WeComply Launches the "Compliance Collective": The First Business-Ethics Mashup

Mount Kisco, NY (PRWeb) March 13, 2007 -- While some may see "business ethics" as an oxymoron, compliance-training provider WeComply sees it as a "mashup" -- a mosaic of corporate web-links viewable at the WeComply mashup. Equal parts public art and research tool, the "Compliance Collective" is a mashup that integrates links to thousands of companies' Codes of Conduct. Visitors from companies whose Code links are not already included are encouraged to participate by adding them.

The "mashup" concept, originally referring to hip-hop mixes of two or more songs, has become a Web 2.0 term for a website that combines content from many independent sources into an integrated experience. Compliance Collective is the first compliance-related mashup, joining a fast-growing list of travel, weather and shopping mashups. (See Programmableweb for other examples.)

We need 2,500 links to fill out the basic mashup
Codes of Conduct (sometimes called "Codes of Ethics" or "Business Practice Standards") are an important cornerstone of business. They describe the core values of a company and the behavior, ethics and business standards expected of all individuals who represent the organization. As of two years ago, all publicly-traded companies are required to publish their Codes of Conduct on their websites to comply with stock-exchange listing standards. More and more private companies are doing the same, embracing the credo that "good ethics is good business" -- even in the absence of a specific legal requirement.

As visitors to the Compliance Collective roll their cursors over thousands of small, colored links in the web image, the names of companies that publish their Codes on their website pop up. Clicking on a link takes viewers directly to the Code of Conduct. As more companies add their Code links to the mashup, the image becomes more fully colorized.

"We need 2,500 links to fill out the basic mashup," said David Simon, WeComply's president, "but our goal is to link to 10,000 or more companies that are proud to share their Codes of Conduct with their shareholders, customers and the public at large."
