Utah is the first state to pass the "stop Internet pornography" resolution: 13 more states have similar resolutions in the works.
(PRWeb) March 13, 2007 -- In a ceremonial signing today, Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. signed HCR 3, "Resolution Urging Congress to Stop Internet Pornography to Children and Employees." The resolution, which recently passed unanimously in both houses of the Utah legislature, formally requests that the United States Government take action to address pornography on the Internet. In particular, the resolution urges the United States Congress to consider enacting legislation to facilitate a technology-based solution that allows parents and employers to subscribe to Internet services that exclude pornography.
"The Internet is not a force of nature -- it's a man-made creation. It can be changed and evolved to better serve us all," said Ralph Yarro, Chairman of The . "There is no reason why we should tolerate an Internet that allows children to easily access pornography."
The Foundation will also sponsor an official Utah state delegation to travel back to Washington D.C. and formally deliver the resolution.
Furthermore, The CP80 Foundation reports that 13 other states are currently working on similar resolutions. Details of other states' progress can be found at http://www.cp80.org/content/involved/resolution_by_state.
"We hope this resolution is the 'shot heard around the world'," said Ralph Yarro. "A declaration to everyone that people are fed-up with the unregulated nature of Internet pornography and want something done."
The CP80 Foundation is the author of the resolution, which was sponsored by Representative Brad Daw and Senator Curtis Bramble. The Foundation hopes that when enough states have voiced similar concerns that the U.S. Government will consider the CP80 Internet Channel Initiative, which would categorize all content on the Internet into Community Channels -- for general public content -- and Open Channels -- for adult content. Internet channels are technically referred to as ports.
With content categorized and organized into Community Channels and Open Channels, individual users would finally be able to choose which content entered his or her home. More information concerning the CP80 Internet Channel Initiative can be found at www.cp80.org.
The CP80 Foundation is also looking at other legislative approaches to managing Internet pornography at both the state and federal level, including its own Internet Community Ports Act (ICPA).
