Seniors Gear up for the 2007 Summer National Senior Games -- The Senior Olympics Presented by Humana Senior Athletic Competition Just Under 100 Days Away

The 2007 National Senior Games -- The Senior Olympics will take place in just under 100 days. Approximately 12,000 senior athletes (ages 50 and older) will compete for the gold. These men and women have worked hard to be able to compete in the largest multi-sport event for people 50 and older.

Louisville, KY (PRWeb) March 15, 2007 -- Today marks 100 days out from the 2007 Summer National Senior Games -- The Senior Olympics presented by Humana. To date, 11,500 qualified athletes have registered for the Senior Games and training efforts are heating up.

"I know competition is fiercer at the national level and I am training hard to bring home the Gold," said Linda Pfoel, age 55, swimming.

The 2007 National Senior Games is open to athletes who qualified at a National Senior Games Association sanctioned event in 2006. Athlete registration closes March 30.

"One hundred days out marks a significant milestone for our event," said Ray Hoyt, executive director, 2007 National Senior Games. "The athletes competing are working hard, and the local organizing committee is stepping up efforts as well to ensure this is the best Senior Games yet."

Volunteer registration officially opened on February 14 and recruitment efforts are in high gear. Four thousand volunteers are needed to serve the athletes, spectators and sponsors who head to Louisville.

All athletic competition venues for the Senior Games have been finalized. The majority of events will take place at the Kentucky Exposition Center and University of Louisville. Other locations include E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, Executive Strike and Spare Fun Center, Oxmoor Country Club, Quail Chase Golf Course, Chariot Run Golf Course, Iroquois Park and Kilianski Sport Complex in Fort Knox.

A biennial event, the 2007 Senior Games take place in Louisville, Ky, and is expected to draw nearly 12,000 qualified athletes and 20,000 spectators, and have a $30 million economic impact on the region.
