From the Ivory Coast to Ivy League, Contextualizing Christian Faith is Vital to Cultural Relevancy

Liberian scholar and pastor Dr. John Kallon addresses the relevancy of Biblical health to physical wellbeing in the context of individual Christian communities.

Boston, MA (PRWeb) March 17, 2007 -- According to John Kallon, Dip. Th., M. Div. D. Min., author of Contextualization of Christianity in Africa: A Case Study of the Kpelle Tribe of Liberia, context is everything when it comes to understanding and applying the Christian faith. Combining physical health issues, such as diabetes, with an understanding of Christianity "at home," Kallon offers this multicultural Bible study guide to churches not only in Africa, but worldwide.

Combining cultural studies of Liberia's Kpelle tribe and work experience at Joslin Diabetes Center, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Kallon relates issues of physical, emotional and spiritual well being to churches in a variety of settings, creating a gateway between diet and exercise for increased community consciousness and education. Contextualization of Christianity in Africa focuses on the book of Exodus to communicate that a combination of good health and Christianity in context is the recipe for a meaningful, fulfilling life.

By mobilizing individuals to value and contribute their personal gifts and be resourceful with local elements, Contextualization of Christianity in Africa shows churches how to be most effective in spreading the word of Jesus Christ.
