Caltech Graduates Launch Food Website with a Technological Edge

efoodi.com (http://efoodi.com) announced official public launch this week, bringing innovative personalization and semantic search technology to the old-media market of food websites.

Pasadena, CA (PRWeb) April 5, 2007 -- People think about food all the time, and recently launched efoodi.com aims to revitalize the online food information market with its unique combination of personalization and search technologies. While current leading food and restaurant websites take a conventional magazine-style approach to providing food information, efoodi.com, developed and recently launched by two Caltech graduates, brings a semantic search engine, a social knowledge network, personalized information storage, and automated categorization to the table.

In the spirit of many recent web ventures, efoodi focuses on social interaction and easy access to information. Users create accounts to store their personal recipes, favorite restaurants, and other food information, which is then linked to a "social search"; this feature allows users to directly explore information within their social network at the click of a button, providing streamlined access to knowledge from trusted individuals such as friends and family.

Taking a step beyond many niche information organizers on the web, efoodi also incorporates custom "semantic search" technology, which enables it to understand, for example, that a "spaghetti carbonara" recipe is interesting to a person looking for "Italian food". Finding information is further simplified by automatically generated search filters and categories; these navigational tools have been highly successful in other search engine applications, but until now, were not available for food-oriented search.

The company is owned and operated by Dr. Demetri Spanos (PhD), and Jonathan Harel, who met while in graduate school at Caltech, and developed efoodi out of a joint interest in bringing modern information technology and innovation to a space typically seen as the domain of large conventional media companies.
