One of the world's leading political and economic gurus wants to create a series of intelligent video games that challenge people to engage -- through interactive computer games -- the defining conflicts of the 21 Century. A truly positive sign of the times that recognizes the unique ability of smart games to provoke thought, discussion and learning.
Niall is one of the most highly-recognized authorities on world history and politics. Having him team with us to create new products is a tremendous endorsement of what we're doing. And it says a lot about where games are going.

Newburyport, Mass. (PRWeb) April 16, 2007 -- On the heels of the highly successful launch of its MAKING HISTORY® 3-D strategy game, Muzzy Lane Software today announces an alliance with noted author, Harvard historian and political commentator Niall Ferguson, to create a new series of video games addressing modern global conflicts.

"This is a very big and very exciting step for us," says Muzzy Lane CEO Dave McCool. "Niall is one of the most highly-recognized authorities on world history and politics. Having him team with us to create new products is a tremendous endorsement of what we're doing. And it says a lot about where games are going."

The author of eight books and a prolific commentator on contemporary politics and economics, Prof. Ferguson writes and reviews regularly for the American and international press. He is a weekly columnist for the Los Angeles Times, and a presenter of a documentary series for Britain's Channel 4 national TV station.

In 2004 Time magazine named him as one of the world's hundred most influential people.

His most recent book, The War of the World, has garnered critical acclaim and has generated widespread discussion in the global political and academic communities.

"I'm getting involved with Muzzy Lane because it's a chance for me to bring my life's work - not just the study of history but also the questioning of it - to a much broader audience," says Prof. Ferguson. "Video games are a cultural phenomenon, fundamentally transforming the way people think about how big things happen. Muzzy Lane's first game, MAKING HISTORY: The Calm & The Storm, convinced me that they are taking smart games to an entirely new level of historical sophistication."

Prof. Ferguson is working with Muzzy Lane to co-develop a new series of computer strategy games that will allow players to compete as nations facing 21st Century challenges, from international terrorism to borderless economies.

The new games will leverage Muzzy Lane's innovative SIGMA game engine that enables a more realistic, thought-provoking and interactive game experience. In addition to uncompromising game play, SIGMA allows gamers and third-party developers to add new scenarios and content to the games.

About Muzzy Lane Software:

With its first release, "MAKING HISTORY®: The Calm & the Storm," Muzzy Lane takes a fresh new approach to multiplayer computer games, combining a flexible 3-D game engine with high-fidelity content that allows players to engage the turning points in history and experiment with limitless alternative scenarios. www.muzzylane.com
