Erdenheim (PRWEB) April 19, 2007 -- It's almost time for the college-bound to start visiting university campuses. But gone are the days of packing up the car, pulling out the maps and hunkering down for an hours-long road trip. Today, there's @College, a service that makes campus visits as easy as turning on your television.
@College is now available at no cost to Comcast Digital Cable customers through ON DEMAND, the company’s video-on-demand service. Accessible any time of the day or night, @College is available throughout the Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and State College, PA markets. @College is available around the clock -- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – so there is no need to wait to have a video mailed out or fill out lengthy applications just to get a catalog. Finding a college is no longer a daunting task. @College is easy to use: Go to the “Get local” section of ON DEMAND and select ‘@College’ to choose the program you want to watch. Because TV is watched by the whole family, ‘@College’ is ideally suited to the consultative group decision-making that goes into choosing a higher education institution.
The idea for @College came to Aztech partner Kevin Mattice after a conversation with his brother who had just returned from a 12-hour round trip to visit a college with his daughter, who decided she didn’t like it almost as soon as they got there. “We live in such a hectic, fast-paced world that this initiative will save people both time and money as they search for the right college," said Mattice.
@College is the ultimate time management tool for high school students and their families. In the past, they would have had to gather information about various higher education institutions across a wide range of media, often waiting weeks to receive it. @College simplifies selection by consolidating all that information, functioning as a centralized information depot. Specific details about a particular school are only a few clicks of the remote away.
In addition to being a resource to the student and family, @College can also be of invaluable assistance to high school guidance counselors. By simply directing prospective applicants to view the videos, their students will gain useful insight and perhaps be 10 minutes or less from learning about a rewarding college experience.
Annie Lam, a sophomore graduating from Drexel University in 2009 says: “I think it’s a good thing. It gives you a better perspective of what’s out there, besides the brochures and stuff. It might convince people to go to colleges they’d never even consider.”
And it might save them from a 12-hour road trip, as well.
