1970's Spooky Movie Icon "Spookman Dan" has emerged from his crypt and is now the proud owner of Ruby Jo's Speakeasy and Dinner Theatre. Northwood, IA (PRWEB) April 23, 2007 -- 1970's Spooky Movie Icon "Spookman Dan" has emerged from his crypt and is now the proud owner of Ruby Jo's Speakeasy and Dinner Theatre. "The days of late night fun with Elvira, the Great Svengoolie and the gang are behind me," says Spookman Dan (aka Dan Tucker). "And I wanted to bring some late night laughter to my hometown of Northwood."
The building housing Spookman Dan's "Ruby Jo's Speakeasy and Dinner Theatre" was built nearly a century ago and has seen itself as the hub of Northwood's growth, a bowling alley and a pool hall, but it has never before been the home of so much laughter and old fashioned fun.
Built in the mid 1910's, the building was originally a land office, in the 1930's it was bought by Axel Johansson and turned into a pool hall with a bowling alley upstairs until the early 1950's, when the bowling alley was moved.
"The building itself is old enough that I have to admit there were a few creepy moments while we were remodeling," Dan remembers. "There's definitely a feeling of the past here so my wife Joanne and I thought this would be the perfect spot for an old time Speakeasy on the main level and a Dinner Theatre upstairs." They already owned DANJO'S Eatery, a few doors down, so taking on this additional challenge seemed like the perfect thing to do.
Entering the Speakeasy (you're allowed to whisper "Jo sent me.") you are greeted by stylish zoot-suited gentlemen and a bevy of very dapper Flappers. The food is hearty homemade fare and the bar can make just about anything, including their own "Ruby Jo's Jazzy Jolt" which is a definitely non-virginal variation of a Shirley Temple. "The only thing that's still spooky about the place." Dan boasts "Is how much fun it is."
