New Story Helps Military Kids Cope With Separation

Sandi Lorenzana's Coming Home Series: Navy Dad inspires kids to talk about their feelings when their military dads are away on duty.

Laupahoehoe, Hawaii (PRWEB) April 22, 2007 -- With more than 1.8 million Americans currently serving in active duty military, the effect of long-term deployment is sometimes the hardest on families with young children. Sandi Lorenzana's Coming Home Series: Navy Dad, the first book in her new children's series about moms' and dads' deployment in each branch of the military, is written to help parents and counselors address the feelings that come up during these long-term separations.

A military brat herself, Lorenzana knows firsthand what military families go through. Kids will relate to Jasmine, the young military daughter in the book, who yearns for her dad's return. They will recognize many of the things Jasmine does to comfort herself, such as holding her father's picture and tracking his travels on a map.

"Coming Home Series: Navy Dad, offers valuable advice to help all members of the [military] family better vocalize their feelings and handle the inevitable difficulties that surface in the lives of 'military brats,'" comments New York Times best selling author Ellen Tanner Marsh.

A questions page is included at the end of the book to gently probe children to talk about their feelings. Never preachy or pushy, Coming Home Series: Navy Dad is a book that kids and their military parents will want to share, and will always cherish. Beautifully illustrated and wisely told, this book offers the ultimate lesson, that even though a military parent might be deployed, love is the one thing that never leaves.
