Every day a staggering number of cell phones end up in landfills. These phones often contain toxic chemicals that can damage the environment if they are not disposed of correctly. The American Cell Phone Drive team settled on 100,000 as an ambitious but reachable goal of total number of phones to be collected by Earth Day 2007 and reached a majority of their target. By extending the campaign 10 additional days, Pace says he believes he can meet that target and more. He also hopes to set a new standard for donation that will continue well past Earth Day.
