With the latest release of IBM Premises Server V6.0, IBM has introduced an Eclipse open standards-based device model for integration of RFID readers, that enables clients to deploy their RFID solutions in either centralized or distributed locations to best meet their business needs, while exploiting the latest and greatest device capabilities.

Orlando, FL (PRWeb) April 9, 2007 -- Today, at the CTIA Wireless 2007 show, Arcom announces commitment to IBM’s new WebSphere RFID Device Program with new products available immediately to support the new Eclipse open platform.

Arcom is a leading manufacturer of embedded OEM computers, wearable computers, industrial controllers, and industrial network gateways, including RFID Edge Controllers compatible with IBM’s WebSphere RFID Premises Server.

Using open source development tools and corresponding frameworks at the device level eliminates many of the compatibility problems associated with proprietary interfaces that customers have to deal with today.
“Arcom is excited about IBM’s move to an open standards-based device model. Not only does this framework enhance the capabilities of Arcom’s RFID appliances, it creates an “ecosystem” within the RFID device community as a whole,” said Arlen Nipper, President of Arcom. “Using open source development tools and corresponding frameworks at the device level eliminates many of the compatibility problems associated with proprietary interfaces that customers have to deal with today.”

With today’s announcement, Arcom’s entire line of products will support the new Eclipse-based device model. At the CTIA Wireless 2007 show Arcom will present several new wireless-based devices that extend the new Eclipse based device model beyond RFID into new solution areas. The newest of these devices include the ZyPad wearable computer and the ZyWAN Cellular Routing Modem.

Arcom is pioneering the wearable computing industry, the ZyPad family of wearable computers offers advanced wireless connectivity including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, ZigBee, as well as RFID reader capability. The ZyPad wearable computer extends and enhances the capabilities of the new Eclipse device model into new market sectors including healthcare, first responders, logistics and supply-chain markets, wearable RFID readers, and enhanced location based services.

Responding to the wireless market demand in the industrial sector, Arcom is also announcing the ZyWAN Cellular Routing Modem. The ZyWAN offers a unique mix of LAN/WAN wireless technologies and industrial sensor interfaces including WAN interfaces of GSM/GPRS, iDEN and EvDO/1xRTT CDMA, LAN interfaces of Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and industrial interfaces including ZigBee, GPS, and conventional RS-232/485 sensor interfaces. The ZyWAN extends and enhances the capabilities of the new Eclipse device model into many of the conventional industrial sector solutions including SCADA, telemetry, automatic meter reading, automatic vehicle location and fleet monitoring.

"The support of the new Eclipse-based open standards interface enables Arcom's controller products to aggregate many different types of data, including RFID and other sensor, industrial and wireless protocols, and at the same time provide a solid state platform for the distributed data capture and delivery component of WebSphere RFID Premises Server 6.0 to deliver exciting new client solutions," said Scott Burroughs, RFID Solution Executive, IBM Software Group.
