High-Tech PLC Network Solutions for Historic High Rise Buildings

PLC technology provides secure, structured cabling networks for historical high rise buildings without the disadvantages of traditional network options.

Tulsa, Okla. (PRWeb) April 6, 2007 -- PLC technology provides secure, structured, cable networks for historical high rise buildings without the disadvantages of traditional network options.

Historical high rises everywhere are being revived to create modern housing and office spaces, raising demand for cost-effective networking solutions that won't disturb the original design. Common, CAT-5 wired, networks require miles of cabling pushed through floors, ceilings and walls in high rise buildings. The process is not only labor intensive, but damaging to historic details.

This is the kind of network currently used on the Queen Mary, an ocean liner and museum built in the early 1930's.
One answer to this problem is PLC networks, which uses a building's existing electrical system as a broadband network platform. The PLC network can then be accessed from any electrical outlet.

"PLC technology is the way to go in unusual locations, such as historical sites," said Mark Wakefield of Remote Watch "This is the kind of network currently used on the Queen Mary, an ocean liner and museum built in the early 1930's."

Other unique locations that benefit from PLC technology:

  • Convention centers
  • Hotels
  • RV Parks and Resorts
  • Manufacturing Plants
  • Retail Stores
  • Military installations

PLC networks also avoid the security and connection flaws inherent in wireless networks. Unlike typical wireless networks, PLC networks can make use of heavy encryption and do not offer an open channel for hackers to exploit. Additionally, PLC systems perform consistently and at high-speed, even when hundreds of users are logged on at the same time, making them ideal for settings where most people in the building will be logged on during peak hours.

"PLC networks are fast, reliable, secure, and less expensive in terms of labor and business interruption than traditionally wired networks," said Mark. "We've had so much success with them that we're now offering free, two-week demos to our interested customers. We've had absolutely no complaints."
