New York City Laser Surgeon Presents First Report on Correction of Fresh Surgical Scars with the Fraxel Laser after Skin Cancer Surgery

Skin cancer is the most common cancer affecting Americans. More than 1 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed and treated yearly in the Unites States alone. A common sequelae of skin cancer surgery are white, red and linear scars which psychologically stress patients. The common thinking has been that scars need to mature before they can be treated.
The Fraxel Laser seems to enhance the wound healing response that commences after surgery to result in a less obvious scar

(PRWEB) May 9, 2007 -- Speaking at the Twenty Seventh Annual Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery in April 2007 in Grapevine, Texas, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, a prominent laser surgeon -- and one of the investigators of the prototype Fraxel device -- presented the first report of the treatment of fresh scars with the Fraxel Laser.

In the study, patients received five Fraxel Laser resurfacing sessions immediately following skin cancer surgery in half of the scar, with the remaining half serving as internal control. The treated half of the scar demonstrated 50-75% improvement compared to the half not treated.

Fraxel Laser resurfacing is an effective option for treatment of mature acne, traumatic and surgical scars.

"Now we are able to safely and effectively treat fresh scars immediately after surgery or within the first 2 weeks of suture removal with superior results," Says Dr. Rokhsar. "The Fraxel Laser seems to enhance the wound healing response that commences after surgery to result in a less obvious scar," adds Dr. Rokhsar.

Dr. Rokhsar is an international authority on fractional resurfacing and has introduced this concept to various parts of the globe including Australia, Asia, Europe as well as South America. Dr. Rokhsar has an office in New York City as well as Garden City, Long Island.
