Entrepreneur Farrah Gray addressed Greenville Tech graduates
Greenville, SC (PRWEB) May 10, 2007 -- Dr. Farrah Gray addressed over 5,500 graduates and their friends and families when Greenville Technical College held graduation ceremonies on Tues., May 8, 2007, at 7 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville.
A celebrity entrepreneur, philanthropist, and bestselling author, Gray has been named one of the most influential black men in America by the National Urban League's "Urban Influence Magazine." Only 22 years old, Gray was already a self-made millionaire at age 14. Raised in the impoverished South Side of Chicago, Gray's journey from poverty to prominence has inspired people around the world.
At six, he was selling homemade body lotion and hand-painted rocks door to door. At seven, he was carrying business cards reading "21st Century CEO." At eight, Gray became co-founder of the Urban Neighborhood Enterprise Economic Club (UNEEC), dedicated to creating and developing legal ways for "at risk" youth to create income. This organization became the forerunner of New Early Entrepreneur Wonders (NE2W), which Gray opened on Wall Street.
As a pre-teen, Gray co-hosted "Backstage Live," a syndicated television and radio show that reached 12 million listeners and viewers each week. Gray's inspirational spirit and grounded personality sparked speaking requests from organizations around the country.
While a teenager, Gray founded and operated many business ventures including KIDZTEL prepaid phone cards, the One Stop Mail Boxes & More franchise, the Teenscope "Youth AM/FM" interactive teen talk show, and Farr-Out Foods, which generated orders exceeding $1.5 million.
Gray's sense of social responsibility led him to create The Farrah Gray Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on inner city, community-based entrepreneurship education. The group provides scholarship and grant assistance for students from at-risk backgrounds to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Honorariums from speaking engagements and proceeds from his book, Reallionaire, which appeared on the Amazon and Barnes & Noble bestseller lists two weeks before its international release, are donated to Gray's foundation.
At the age of 21, Gray received an Honorary Doctorate degree of Humane Letters from Allen University. The award was given in recognition of his ingenious economic mind and commitment to the development of values such as leadership, integrity and scholarship.
Gray addresses more than half a million people each year on leadership, personal development, diversity, strategic planning, creativity, business development, and financial management. He has spoken at more than 100 colleges.
At Greenville Tech, his message to students included advice on finding an area of excellence.
