Distinguished bi-partisan group of retired generals, public servants and academic experts launch new national security think tank. Press conference featuring Sen. Gary Hart, Gen. Anthony Zinni and Sen. John Kerry among others to be held May 16, 2007 at the National Press Club from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Nationwide poll results on national security attitudes will also be released at the event.

(PRWeb) May 10, 2007 -- Senator Gary Hart and the members of the Board of Directors announce the official launch of the American Security Project on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.

The organization will kickoff with a press conference Wednesday, May 16th at the National Press Club, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Members of the press and interested public are invited to join the Board of Directors for a reception from 9:00 am to 9:30 am. Senator Hart, and board members, including General Anthony Zinni, USMC (Ret.) and Senator John Kerry, will make remarks and take questions from 9:30 am to 10:00 am.

ASP will also release the results of its survey of public attitudes towards national security from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. John Marttila of Marttila Communications will present the results and analysis of a nation-wide poll capturing opinions on America's role in the world and the state of U.S. national security.

ASP is a non-profit initiative organized around the belief that honest public discussion of national security requires a better-informed citizenry -- one that understands the dangers and opportunities of the twenty-first century and the spectrum of available responses.

ASP exists to help Americans, from opinion leaders to the general public, understand how national security issues directly relate to them. Challenges will be explained in plain language. Threats will be described to spur constructive action, not to incite fear. Models for leadership will be devised for future needs. Principled solutions will be developed and communicated across broad platforms.

America needs a new national security vision for this new era and a dialogue at home that is as robust as it is realistic.
