Congressional Medal of Honor Gala on USS Yorktown Sponsored by Renaissance Charleston Hotel-Historic District

On Wednesday May 23, the Medal of Honor Flight Deck Gala will be held on board the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier located in Charleston Harbor at Patriots Point.

Charleston, SC (PRWEB) May 17, 2007 -- On Wednesday May 23, 2007 the Medal of Honor Flight Deck Gala will be held on board the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier located in Charleston Harbor at Patriots Point. This black-tie, Charleston event is hosted by the Patriots Point Foundation, and sponsors include the Renaissance Charleston Hotel-Historic District, a downtown Charleston hotel.

NBC Nightly News Anchor and Managing Editor Brian Williams, a member of the Board of Directors of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, is the emcee for the Gala. On this evening the NBC Nightly News will originate from the USS Yorktown, a first for the Charleston area. The gala is in celebration of all Medal of Honor recipients, and of the 112 still living most are expected to attend.

The gala will be held on the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier that has as honorable of a history as many of the honorees at the event. At nearly 900 feet in length, weighing in at more than 27,000 tons and bristling with weapons and war planes, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) was one of the most imposing modern marvels on the planet during WWII. Launched by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Yorktown took on Japanese forces in epic battles. In the years that followed WWII, the carrier continued to play a vital role for the Navy including involvement in the Vietnam War. Yorktown even earned a place in space exploration history with the recovery of NASA's Apollo 8 crew in 1968.

Anyone planning on attending the gala can book accommodations at the Renaissance Charleston Hotel-Historic District, which is just across the Cooper River from Patriots Point. Combine the history-filled atmosphere of Charleston with this modern hotel situated in the historic district. Conveniently travel to nearby landmarks and events from this upscale, downtown Charleston, SC hotel.

Tickets for the gala are on sale to the general public. For information about available tickets, tables and sponsorship opportunities, contact Judy Almand, Patriots Point Foundation Executive Director at (843) 881-5995.
